Denver Turnverein Dance Center

I’d make it zero stars if I could but 1 is the lowest it allows me. It is almost impossible to get out with my wife with a small child at home, well we finally got a chance after nearly a year since our last time getting to dance. This picture clearly shows a $12 entry for a normal dance party.

After a long drive to get there we were greeted by a lady before ever making it to the door and her first words were “What are you here for?” After we replied for the dance party, she then snaps back “It’s a special event tonight and the band ends at 10 and the tickets were $49,” making for an extremely unwelcoming experience. Heck, why even mention the price of the ticket, came off very snooty. After double checking the calendar as I was baffled to hear this, I then headed back in to talk to a different lady at the front counter who seemed very surprised and said “oh it does say that on our calendar”. She then looks to the other lady that greeted us in a very rude manner that she called over. Now this lady says “Well it’s on our special events tab.” Really, lady? Why would I go click on a special events tab if your calendar doesn’t say a single thing about a special event that night?

So let’s go through it all, 1. Rude greeting from someone I can only assume “works” there 2. Absolute incompetence that they can’t even properly update their own calendar 3. Terrible business practices when they can see that they’ve falsely advertised the wrong prices on their own calendar, heaven forbid you allow two people to dance for the last 30 minutes. Thanks for wasting my whole evening.

I now have zero desire to ever return, I recommend anyone else reading this, go look elsewhere for dancing options.

Friday swing-dancing at the Turnverein is a great time, with a $10 beginner lesson and $10 intermediate lesson at 7 p.m. The dance itself is only $10 and lasts from 8-11.

It’s located right next to the police station, so the area feels safe. They have a parking lot attached to the building, and it’s very well-lit. The building itself is historic and lovely.

The dance floor is smooth, level, huge, and covers two floors. They have excellent air conditioning. Their DJs are outstanding, and they sometimes have live bands.

They have a hilarious, salty, cool bartender who mixes drinks like a pro, with all kinds of non-alcoholic options as well. Bar prices are really low.

The instructors are outstanding, and the dancers are uniformly kind. All ages and ability levels are warmly welcomed.

If you’re not at the Turnverein on a Friday night, I honestly feel you’re missing out.

Great old building for events. Unfortunately the AC is out for the event I attended so it was rather uncomfortable in 90 degree weather but we still had fun.

There’s the upstairs main dance floor that has a stage in the middle and a basement dance floor as well so you can have different music at the same time if you like.

Parking is limited if you are having a larger event so be aware that could be an issue.

Could use an update and some minor fixes to make the building more attractive but in all a solid venue.
